Transitional Assistance for
Recently Separated Veterans and
Employment for Military and
Recently Separated Veterans     www.taonline.com/default/default.asp

****************************

Many recently separated Veterans make a very critical mistake when they seek a wage comparable to what they made while on active duty (i.e. Base Pay + Separate Rations + BAQ/BOQ Allowances + Housing Allowances + Dependent Allowances + Combat or Hazardous Duty Pay, etc.) In short, they "price themselves out of the job market!

All Veterans seeking employment should check out the following web sites to see what the job market will offer regarding the type of job, stability and wages they seek.

Convert MOC, MOS, MODT or RATING to comparable civilian occupation and find out what the salary ranges are in the 'real worldwww.taonline.com/mosdot/miltociv.asp

Military.Com's skills translator allows you to translate your MOS, Rate, AFSC or designator into civilian terms (for job applications and resumes).  This helps transitioning military personnel learn the 'civilian job' title, required civilian training requirements, hiring plans and established salaries, in a specific labor market, for that occupation.

APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING

Recently Separated Veterans have acquired many skills while serving on Active Duty.  Whether your skills are transferrable to civilian jobs or if you had a military occupation (infantry, missle crewmember, etc) for which there are no civilian counterparts, an apprenticeship program, learning a new skill, get paid while training, and also receive V.A. Education Benefits while in an approved Apprenticeship Program may be the ideal way for Veterans to become re-employed.

See Education & Training for more information.

UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFITS

Upon Release from Active Duty or Discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces, former service members may be eligible for unemployment benefits if he/she meet the Federal and State requirements for such benefit payments.  Former Service members must have been discharged or released from the Armed Forces under "Honorable Conditions", and if you were an officer, you must not have resigned for the "good of the service".  To find out more about filing claims, contact the local Unemployment Office in your area.

Unemployment benefits and related services are financed solely by employer's Federal and State payroll taxes.

Unlike Social Security (F.I.C.A.), for old age pension and disability benefits, you do not contribute into the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund.

The following web sites will provide you with answers to many questions you may have about Unemployment Insurance Benefits.
